Proposal

  1. I’m studying commerce at Dawson College.
  2. I might open up my story with a life-threatening story that happened to my dad’s family during the Lebanese civil war. The question that I want to answer is how the war (other conflicts) have affected Lebanese people’s decision-making skills in business. The conventional wisdom I want to challenge is why Lebanese people are always owning a business.
  3. I want to write about this because it’s something very personal and I’ve always been curious about the severity of the civil war and the affects it had on people.
  4. I hope to have a full picture of what Lebanon was like during that time and also to understand the reason behind this conventional wisdom.
  5. How does the trauma that Lebanese parents have gone through affect their children? Who were my parents before I was born?
  6. The type of feature story I’m going to write is a riddle story. I feel like my whole story is trying to answer bigger picture question but at the same time I feel like it’s also an investigative story because I’m trying to find the truth behind my conventional wisdom.
  7. My audience for my story will be first generation people of immigrant parents in Canada. This group can really relate to my topic.
  8. Having my audience in mind the purpose of my essay is to have a better understanding of what many immigrant parents go through in their home countries. Also, to apricate the sacrifices they make.
  9.  My essay would be on the Lebanese news website MTV. https://www.mtv.com.lb/en/
  10. My feature story is answering the why Lebanese people always seem to own a business. I believe that it’s because of the civil war in Lebanon that made them change their mind set a bit. The trauma from the war possibly make them more risk taking when it comes to business decisions. I want to how Lebanese people also do business because it’s every different than traditional business in Canada. For the feature I’m also going to interview a few Lebanese entrepreneurs to get an idea of what they think about it.  At the same time, I’m using this story to have an understanding of what my parents went through also. The question of why where my parents before I was born is always in my head now. However, I feel like I have too many ideas in one essay now, I really need to focus on one.
